Bake Sale: October 21st, 2011 PDF Print E-mail
Laura Fortune is a student in the Small Medium Enterprise course at Algonquin College and as part of her Project Management class Laura will be hosting a charity fundraiser; all proceeds raised go to the Cameron Smith foundation.

Laura writes...
I was in Cameron’s grade 8 class, and still to this day I think about him regularly. He was an amazing friend and classmate.  So naturally when I was told proceeds were going to charity, the Cameron Smith foundation instantly came to mind. I was active in the Kanata Hockey community for a number of years and even played in the first Cameron Smith Memorial game.
The bake sale details are as follows - we welcome and encourage your support of Laura's efforts by attending in her Bake Sale.

Location: Algonquin college, in building C (main building) in front of the registrar’s office,

Date: Friday October 21.

Time: between the hours of 12-3 (depending on how much is sold) on

Update:

I'm pleased to report that Laura's bake sale was a huge success - raising $216.60 for her one day event. Thanks to everyone who participated, provided bake goods, or were able to attend.

Cameron Smith Friendship Tournament Achieves Its Goal PDF Print E-mail

On behalf of the 2010 Cameron Smith Friendship Tournament Organizing Committee, I am pleased to announce that with your support we have achieved our fundrainsing goal of $100,000. I'm also pleased to announce that as a result of the generosity of our community sponsors and participating teams, this year’s Karaoke, Pancake Breakfast & Silent Auction were the most successful events we’ve ever run – each raising record breaking amounts of money for the Cameron Smith Memorial Fund.

As a community, you have personified the very essence of Cameron’s loving nature, his kind heart and gentle soul - the very values of “community spirit” & “friendship” upon which Cameron’s tournament was founded. We would not be we are today, without your generosity & support.

As I'm sure you can imagine, running an initiative of this size requires the support and generosity of a core group of title & founding sponsors, for they represent the foundation that allows us to achieve our goals.  We have been truly blessed and sincerely appreciate the generosity we have received from our core sponsors:

  • Teksmed/QuikCare
  • Kanata Sports Club
  • THE AIM GROUP
  • The KMHA Officiating Program
  • TD Bank, Hazeldean Road
  • Ottawa Fire Services

Our thanks and deepest appreciation also goes out to our Pool Sponsors for their significant contributions to this year's event:

  • Urbandale
  • Dragonwave
  • Councillor's Peggy Feltmate, Marianne Wilkinson, Shad Qadri & Eli El-Chantiry

For a complete listing of those companies and individuals who have so generously supported our cause, since the tournament was founded, please visit our sponsors page

We would also like to thank the following organizations & individuals for all of the support they have provided to us over the course of the tournament.

  • Hockey Canada, ODHA, ODMHA & OWHA
  • KMHA & KGHA
  • Charles Saunders
  • Our City Councillors - Peggy Feltmate, Marianne Wilkinson, Eli El-Chantiry & Shad Qadri
  • KMHA & KGHA ice schedulers - Jeff MacDonald, Terry Nichols & Derek Stoparczyk
  • Capital City Condors
  • Dave White & Sue Chayer - from Mementos on Carp Road
  • City of Ottawa Facility Staff
  • Courtenay Tarr & Jessica Fitzpatrick

It takes a special group of tournament volunteers, to run an initiative of this magnitude and I’m very pleased to say that as a community we have been truly fortunate to have had an incredible group of volunteers, past and present, offer their time in service to our community, for Cameron’s cause. In that light, I would also like to thank this year’s organizing committee members - who have all shown all us, by their actions, that the sky’s the limit when we work together as a community:

  • Mary Jo Arpin
  • Cynthia Cole
  • Karen Waters
  • Kim Taylor
  • Chantal MacDonald
  • Kaela Renaud

We also wish to extend our deepest thanks to our past committee members, volunteers and the families of the Organizing Committee who knowingly get pulled in to help, on a moment’s notice, for anything and everything.

Most importantly, we want to thank Cameron’s family (Alasdair, Andree & Shannon) for allowing us to find a means for our community to help their family heal, through the creation of a Cameron's namesake memorial fund that will help countless youth in our community play minor hockey, for many years to come.

Events such as this change a community forever and we are so incredibly proud and thankful to have represented the community, on such a worthwhile initiative. We can only image how happy and proud Cameron must be of everything that we as a community have achieved together!

Thank you!

Garry Brownrigg
